FLOW-3D Water Infrastructure: 2019 Review

FLOW-3D is a widely-used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling platform that empowers engineers to accurately characterize complex free surface flows and their interactions with the environment. In this presentation, John Wendelbo showcases modeling applications of CFD methods in water civil infrastructure. Topics include municipal conveyance and wastewater processes, dam-related hydraulics, river and environmental flows, transportation, and coastal resilience. Throughout the discussion, John highlights current strengths, existing challenges, and how cloud-based high performance computing (HPC) is radically transforming the functionality of CFD tools for water resource engineers.
