MAXION Flexible Wheel with MICHELIN ACORUS Technology Reinventing the wheel – Bends but does not break

Factory Design. Innovation has always been part of Michelin’s genetic code – driving mobility and tyre developments for more than 100 years. Now with MICHELIN ACORUS Technology, in partnership with Maxion Wheels, Michelin is reinventing the wheel to help eliminate road-based damage to tyres and rims.

Michelin How to make flexible a wheels. The patented new technology, developed by Michelin and Maxion Wheels for the passenger car wheel market, incorporates two flexible rubber flanges mounted on a special wheel body to create a flexible wheel that improves the ride and comfort and also absorbs impacts from potholes and kerbs. The new wheel is compatible with all tyres on the market and comprises an alloy rim – which is narrower than normal, two rubber flanges and an optional cosmetic insert to protect the alloy wheel.

In tests with a 285/30R21 tyre driven through a pothole*, the standard rim version punctured the tyre at 28kph whereas the Flexible Wheel with the MICHELIN ACORUS Technology did not puncture, or sustain damage at any speed.

MICHELIN UPTIS

Real life Demonstration about this new Airless Wheel Technology. Michelin and General Motors presented a new generation of airless wheel technology for passenger vehicles — the MICHELIN Uptis Prototype (or “Unique Puncture- proof Tire System”) — at the Movin’On Summit for sustainable mobility.

Michelin and GM also announced a joint research agreement under which the companies intend to validate the Uptis Prototype with the goal of introducing Uptis on passenger models as early as 2024.

READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE:

The Uptis Prototype is re-engineered for today’s passenger vehicles, and it is also well suited to emerging forms of mobility. The vehicles and fleets of tomorrow — whether autonomous, all-electric, shared service or other applications — will demand near-zero maintenance from the tire to maximize their operating capabilities.

The Uptis Prototype represents a major advancement toward achieving Michelin’s VISION concept, which was presented at the Movin’On Summit in 2017 as an illustration of Michelin’s strategy for research and development in sustainable mobility. The VISION concept introduced four main pillars of innovation: airless, connected, 3D-printed and 100% sustainable (entirely renewable or bio-sourced materials).

  1. to imaginando no brasil nessa buraqueira e ainda impregnado de barro….michelin babou esse pneu…é um pneu murcho rodando….

  2. Nice try. But this is not at all a good idea! It will be very dangerous at high speed. The stability of the car will also affected.
Need to improve this a bit more healthy.
